From Monks to Bricks: A Hive of Industry
With Philip Rayner

Our new series of Sunday afternoon ‘Walkie Talkies’ kicks off with an introduction to the site and its history with Philip Rayner. Philip has worked at Prestongrange for three years and has built up a mass of knowledge from talking to visitors and researching the museum collections. This event will include a short illustrated talk followed by a guided walk around the site. A perfect introduction to our other talks!
 

Prestongrange Pottery
With George Haggarty
Sunday 30th May

Renowned pottery expert George Heggarty joins us for a glimpse into Prestonpans’ Pottery past! The pottery expert for the Prestongrange Community Archaeology Project, George has a vast knowledge of the Prestongrange site. George’s talks are always popular so book your tickets early to avoid disappointment. This event will include a short illustrated talk followed by a guided tour around the exhibition ‘Gone to Pot’.

Crucible and Kiln: the Chemistry of Prestongrange
With David Anderson
Sunday 27th June
1-2.45pm

David Anderson is a local historian with experience of working in the chemical industry. In his ‘explosive’ session, we learn about Prestonpans’ early chemical industry, including a chemical experiment! This walkie talkie will explore the basic processes of the ceramics, glassmaking and sulfuric acid industries, all of which had local connections.

Tea and Cakes with Catherine and Annie
With Nicola Wright and Angie Townsend

1-2.45pm

Come and meet Catherine Blair; Suffragette, instigator of the SWRI and founder of Mak’Merry Pottery. Brought to life through storytellers Angie Townsend & Nicola Wright reminiscing over ‘Cups of Tea and Pots!’. In this session, you’ll be invited to pull up a chair and join their chat within our pottery exhibition. In the words of Catherine Blair, “If you know a good thing pass it on!”

 

Digging into the Past: Prestongrange's Community Archaeology Project

Sunday 3rd October

1-2.45 pm

Join Biddy Simpson, East Lothian Council's Archaeologist, to find out more about the Prestongrange Community Archaeology Project. The project, which took place between 2004-2010, made fascinating discoveries about the harbour, glassworks and pottery site. The findings resulted in a publication and new walkway. This Walkie Talkie will bring these findings to life!

Our new series of Sunday afternoon ‘Walkie Talkies’ finishs with an overall view of the site and its history with Philip Rayner. Philip has worked at Prestongrange for three years and has built up a mass of knowledge from talking to visitors and researching the museum collections. He will be featured on BBC Radio Scotland's Out of Doors programme.This event will include a short illustrated talk followed by a guided walk around the site. A perfect way to finish the season! Please note, this is the final day of the 2010 season. Prestongrange will re-open in April 2011.
