Prestongrange is located on the coast road between Musselburgh and Prestonpans, on the John Muir Way coastal path, just eight miles from central Edinburgh. Public Transport information is located at the foot of this page.


The museum was the first local authority museum in Scotland to achieve full Accreditation under the
Museums, Libraries & Archives Council scheme.

Public Transport
We support environmentally friendly ways of accessing Prestongrange.
By Bus
Lothian Bus 26 and First Bus 129 (66 on Sundays) stop right outside the site.
By Train
Wallyford Station is within 20 minutes walk of Prestongrange. Find out more details and timetables via the Scotrail Website.
By Bicycle or On Foot
Prestongrange is next to the John Muir Way, a long distance path which links Edinburgh to the Scottish Borders.
It is also on the National Cycle Network Route 76, from Edinburgh to Berwick (and Stirling to St Andrews)
Car Sharing
Free car parking means you can link up with your friends and family beforehand to share your journey to the site. Only 8 miles from central Edinburgh, it isn't too long a journey. Take the picturesque route through Musselburgh and the Coast Road and passengers might be able to spot Horse Racing, a golf course and Wagons all on on the way into Prestongrange.
